The Brianne Carter Memorial Fund

The Run for Brianne is affiliated with the Chester County Community Foundation.  Proceeds from the Run for Brianne and related events are deposited into the Brianne Carter Memorial Fund, which was established to create a Unionville High School scholarship. Each year a  scholarship is presented to a student who exemplifies Brianne’s academic and sports qualities. In a special tribute because 2003 would have been the year of Brianne's graduation, two $2000 scholarships were awarded to deserving students -- one male and one female -- to help with college expenses. In 2004, the committee again awarded two $2,000 scholarships to male and female students.

Proceeds from the Eighth Annual Run for Brianne will guarantee the continuation of the Brianne Carter Memorial Fund for years to come. All donations are tax-deductible.

Scholarship Recipients

The first Brianne Carter Memorial Scholarship, worth $1,000, was awarded to Jennifer Duva upon her graduation from Unionville High School in June 2000.  An outstanding student who excelled in field hockey, Jennifer attended Penn State University.

In June 2001, Brianne's parents, Bob and Stacey Carter, proudly presented a $2000 scholarship check to Caitlin Allen, winner of the 2001 Brianne Carter Memorial Scholarship.  Caitlin is studying nursing at Lycoming College.  While at Unionville High School, she was captain of the Girls Lacrosse Team.

The 2002 award went to Meg Goddu, who was the captain of the Varsity Field Hockey Team at Unionville High School.  A scholar and an athlete, she was a member of the National Honor Society and also played travel soccer and swam for Kennett Country Club in the summers.  Meg attends Gettysburg College, where she plays on the Varsity Field Hockey Team.

Scholarship awards for 2003 went to Mark Ely and Lauren Kremer. Mark attends the College of William and Mary, while Lauren Kremer is a student at Bucknell University, where she plays on the Women's Varsity Lacrosse Team.

In 2004, awards went to Lisa DiCola and Michael Morris.  Lisa attends York College, while Michael attends St. Joseph's University.

In 2005, awards went to Jackie Cook and Timothy Midella. Jackie attends Ohio State University, while Timothy attends Hamilton College.

In 2006, awards went to Kiersten Carter and Michael Brodsky. Kiersten attends Franklin and Marshall College and Michael attends the University of Tennessee.

Students do not need to apply for the scholarship.  Recipients are chosen from the senior class at Unionville High School by a committee of teachers, school administrators and parents.  Selection is based on a student's sports and academic record and personal qualities that Brianne Carter exemplified during her short life.
